I want to take one summer class, something that meets at night or on weekends, since I’ll be working 10-6. Russian’s out because no one offers it during the summer. Instead I want to take a design class. No community college near me offers design classes focused on learning technical skills, like an Illustrator 101-type class, or a basic AutoCAD class. No one offers editing either. Of course, the only school that offers any of these classes is UCLA Extension. SO FRUSTRATING because besides the fact that it would take me an hour to get to Westwood from my house, their classes are $650-900. That is INSANE for a two month long class. It seems particularly crazy to me because my three years at Occidental are free. Before anyone suggests learning these programs on my own, I don’t have them for Macs, and I only have a Macbook that crashes every 15 minutes when I try to run Photoshop or InDesign. A friend who works at a Mac store offered to let me trade in my 3-year-old Macbook + $900 for a new MacBook Pro, but I can’t do that either, cause I’ve been unemployed for 4 months and don’t start my new job til June. FRUSTRATED.
